Fitzgerald’s Heavy Timber Construction Inc. (FHTC) is looking for an experienced timber construction Project Manager.
FHTC is a timber frame construction and restoration firm based in Thurmont, MD. Our core business is the restoration and new construction of structural landmarks, utilizing traditional techniques and solutions in heavy timber framing. As a Project Manager, you are accountable for being the steward and office support for customer's construction contracts and the people completing the contracted work. You will manage efficient project completion to the letter of the contract documents by verifying work matches contract documents, developing project schedules, estimating projects, ordering materials, and keeping projects running smoothly without work delays or stops. These results contribute to our company's strategic objective by providing the overall schedules, estimates, and feedback needed by others to know a projects performance and how to manage the details of completing construction contracts.

profitability.
Fundamental Job Duties
This Position's Strategic Work is to:
1) Provide forward thinking direction, supervision, and support
2) Promote productivity, communication, and morale
3) Prepare and update project schedules for Super's reference
4) Establish and manage workflow communications with customers to ensure that project modifications, or concerns, are addressed and handled in a timely manner; Serve as liaison for communication with customers, Crew Leaders, designers, and subcontractors during construction.
5) Analyze and resolve project management problems promptly; Assist the Super as an advisor for solving project challenges
6) Update my Position's Manual with reviewed and approved content
This Position's Tactical Work is to:
1) Communicate change orders and addendums to the sales/design team
2) Collaborate with the sales/design team to fine tune project's scope of work
3) Estimate project costs using the scope of work developed by the sales/design team and the Estimate Workbook
4) Interview management candidates (Crew Leader, Super, Designers…) when requested
5) Schedule and coordinate purchasing needs with the Office Manager at least one month in advance
6) Verify the Super is approving accurate and complete time records in accordance with company procedures detailed in the Project Hours Report and or manuals
7) Schedule and verify the completion of all inspections, approvals, and certifications required for my projects
8) Schedule and order materials, tools, and equipment for projects
9) Submit purchase orders to the finance department
10) Write and submit reports on project progress, profitability, and scheduling
11) Review project budget reports and provide suggestions for improvement 12) Inspect and document jobsite work for conformance with contract documents
13) Schedule and coordinate project cashflow needs with the finance department by using:
o The Schedule of Values workbook
o And the Upcoming Expenses workbook
14) Manage projects using:
o Project Notebook in OneNote
o Project Hours Reports (PHRs) o Excel Job Log Workbooks
o Microsoft Project
o Excel Tracking Workbooks
o And QuickBooks Time
15) Develop and record Project Management Procedures in Position Manuals as directed by the VP
16) Verify daily photo documentation of jobsite work is being submitted
Prerequisites
- Pre-employment, on going post accident and random drug screening for a drug free work place
- Knowledge and familiarity of the industry / trades depends on prior relevant experience
- Preference of 1+ years of timber framing experience (or a demonstrated ability & willingness to learn and to teach)
- 3+ years of construction crew leadership preferred
- Applicants will be required to own a set of personal carpentry/work tools and PPE.
- Specialized tools and large power tools will be provided
