Why We Matter: Aura connects people around the world through a brilliant and simple photo-sharing experience on our customers’ digital picture frames. We are driven to connect people and deliver joy by liberating the wonderful photos that might otherwise stay trapped on smartphones. Technology and innovation are at the core of every decision we make, but always in the service of bringing families and friends closer together.
How You Will Add Value: We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to help build the future of Aura across our mobile apps and interactive digital photo frames. As a customer-focused creative leader, you will design and deliver consumer-facing experiences used by millions of users globally. As a collaborative team member, you will work with product managers, engineers and other stakeholders to identify and solve problems for our users and our business.
Responsibilities:
- Solve prioritized business and user problems with simple and elegant solutions and designs. Produce artifacts – everything from sequence diagrams to high-fidelity designs – that support the execution of those solutions across product, engineering and the rest of the organization.
- Elevate the look and function of our product experiences across iOS, Android and our digital photo frames.
- Deeply understand our customers. Talk to them frequently and learn their pain points, needs and desires. To that end, conduct open-ended user research, develop prototypes and lead usability testing on those prototypes.
- Be agile and collaborative with other designers, product managers and engineers. There are no “hand-offs” here; the team collectively works together on defining and solving problems for end users.
- Take a data-driven approach to your design solutions. Regularly intake both quantitative and qualitative data about our business (sales + revenue), our users’ habits (onboarding funnels, user retention, app activities) and user pain points (customer support tickets) to help refine new solutions and existing experiences.
- Work closely with the rest of the organization to deeply understand our ambitious business goals and how your work can directly contribute to them. Deeply understand the outcome that you’re trying to achieve.
- Be both a teacher and student within the product team to help the team as a whole continue to improve.
- Above all, strive to make Aura’s business, product and culture great.
We Are Excited About You Because:
- You have 5 to 10 years of experience as a product designer who can take features from concept to launch. Ideally, at least three of those years were spent working on scaled (1M+ users) consumer-facing native mobile apps. Startup experience is a huge plus. Your portfolio reflects this experience. (Note: Applications will not be considered without a portfolio.)
- You have experience working with design systems, developing reusable components and designing within a strong grid system. Less is more.
- You have extensive experience with conducting user research, interviews, usability testing and design sprints. You can talk to customers and develop a path forward based on what you’re hearing.
- You can effectively communicate with leaders at all levels from engineers and product managers to executive leadership.
- You’re comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to turn uncertainty into action. You know how to make things happen.
- You’re comfortable working on a distributed team.
- You are located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
