Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Maintain a Minimum Missouri Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger & School Bus endorsements
- Physical exam required
Paid training for CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements is available.

- Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
- Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
- Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
Essential Functions:
- Transport and/or supervise students over specified routes according to an established time schedule
- Teach, monitor, and supervise safe bus practices to ensure student safety
- Know, understand, and implement specific safety accommodations for students with disabilities, such as those documented in an IEP, Section 504 plan, etc.
- Properly supervise all bus operations, including oversight of Bus Aides
- Attend required meetings pertinent to the position
- Effectively communicate with school personnel regarding any student-related issues
- Exhibit through performance, an understanding of effective behavior management
- Maintains records and submits reports in a timely fashion
- Able to follow prescribed procedures for body fluid and waste clean-up as needed
- Achieve and maintain prescribed certifications per job requirements through training as provided by the District
- Perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Clean bus as required
- Comply with traffic regulations
- Drive safely and professionally
- Enforce the student discipline code
- Manually operate wheelchair lift, when required
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Must sit for long periods of time while driving a school bus
- Frequently stand up from driver’s seat and walk
- Frequently walk up and down stairs
- Frequently walk on a variety of ground surfaces, including, but not limited to, paved, gravel, grass, or dirt
- Frequently bend and twist the torso and neck
- Frequently use repetitive arm, wrist and hand movements
- Use close, distance and peripheral vision as well as depth perception
Conditions and Environment
Environment is that of a typical bus setting. The individual who holds this position must:
- Frequently work in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Occasionally work in rain, sleet and ice and drive on slippery conditions
- Often work in an area with a high noise level including engine noise and the sound of many children speaking, a raised voice may be necessary
*This job requires a training period prior to the assumption of duties. The training period includes instructional time and written tests in order to obtain a permit. Successful completion of the school bus endorsement test is required 14 days after the permit is granted.
