Overview
Liberty's Promise (www.libertyspromise.org) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income, immigrant youth, ages 11-21, through our in-school, after-school, and internship programs. Civics and Citizenship Junior is a program for immigrant middle schoolers of all backgrounds focusing on high school readiness, career awareness, civic knowledge, and community engagement. The Program Officer will hold two programs weekly at Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling, for ten weeks in the fall, and ten in the spring (20 weeks annually). The successful candidate for this position will work from home when not on-site at the school. All applicants should have reliable transportation to the site where programs take place.
Position Summary
We are currently seeking an energetic and dedicated Program Officer to engage our youth, ages 11-14, and conduct our program at Seneca Ridge Middle School in Loudoun County, VA. The Program Officer will organize and lead two field trips per semester. In order to best communicate with the majority of our youth, applicants must have a high level of Spanish-language skills. All applicants must have substantial and successful experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a multicultural environment, and be comfortable taking initiative on planning activities relevant to their specific group of youth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Program Planning and Execution (40% of time)
· Develop curriculum and lead programs for low-income, middle-school-age, immigrant youth
· Organize and schedule guest speakers, who will visit the program to spread awareness of community resources that may benefit our youth, as well as model their respective career fields
· Organize and schedule two field trips per semester
· Assist youth individually as needed, acting as a trusted mentor who can connect youth and their families to the services or additional support that they need
Data collection, reporting, and analysis (10% of time)
· Collect and organize youth registration forms, and upload to youth database
· Track and update program outcomes and statistics using Salesforce
· Ensure that program data is up-to-date and available for grant submissions
Administration (30% of time)
· Write and edit grants for Liberty’s Promise
· Complete all monthly reporting necessary for local grants
· Write up reports and case studies to be used as marketing material
· Organize all program related material (photos, receipts, handouts, etc.)
External Relations (15% of time)
· Build and maintain active relationships with LP designated schools, districts, and systems, including high schools and local colleges
· Maintain an active knowledge base of nonprofits and programs relative to LP’s mission, and serve as a liaison, anticipating the needs of our youth to connect them with the local community resources that are available
· Develop relationships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies
Additional duties as assigned (5% of time)
· Occasionally attend weekend or evening meetings on behalf of Liberty’s Promise
Position Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
· Self-starter
· Must exhibit flexibility, reliability, exceptional professionalism, and a strong work ethic
· Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to think on your feet and find solutions to unanticipated problems
· Fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written)
· Deep belief in Liberty’s Promise mission, vision, and values
· Dedication to working with youth and helping our organization grow over the long term
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is $23,000 per year.
