Carpenter
The ideal person for the position of Carpenter is someone who understands the basics of construction and the safe operation of construction tools such as saws, pneumatic nailers, jacks, scaffolding and ladders. This position requires a person to be physically fit and is like an athletic event. The work is challenging, yet rewarding since at the end of each day you get to leave the job site seeing what you have built and knowing it will be there to serve people for generations.
The work is varied and interesting; from window installation to foundation construction, finish trim work to standing seam metal roofing.
As a company KV TECH strives to be aware of how all structures interact as a system and to make sure that each component of the building is designed to work in that system and installed correctly. We will teach and instruct in the principles of building science so applicants need not have a background in High Performance Housing or similar experience.
The typical week is 4, 10 hour days with a three day weekend. Applicants need to be able to work productively for 10 hours so physical endurance is required.
Responsibilities:
- Layout walls, floors and trusses for construction
- Read and understand building blueprints
- Build concrete form work based on building drawings
- Set foundations based on blueprint elevations
- Frame window and door openings from building drawings
- Keep the jobsite clean and organized
- Communicate with customers and answer questions
Skills:
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform mathematical calculations
- Take verbal instructions and communicate back those instructions
- Safely use power tools, ladders and scaffolds
- Basic understanding of construction practices like platform framing
