Job Title: Deputy Director of Law and Policy
Location: New Mexico (Abq or Santa Fe Hybrid)

Position Overview: The Deputy Director of Law and Policy will be a seasoned attorney with stellar legal writing and research skills who oversees the organization's legal research, policy development, and advocacy efforts. This role requires an individual with excellent legal research and writing skills (laws, regs, guidance, etc.), strong interpersonal abilities, and proven management capabilities. The Deputy Director will work closely with colleagues to drive the organization's mission forward and ensure the successful implementation of projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the legal and policy work, ensuring high-quality research, analysis, and advocacy.
- Oversee the development and implementation of legal and policy strategies to address social determinants of health.
- Provide expert legal advice and support to the organization on various issues.
- Draft, review, and edit policy briefs, reports, and legal documents.
- Engage with community stakeholders, legislators, and policymakers to promote and advance the organization's policy agenda.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners, funders, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings, meetings, and public forums as needed.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited university.
- Bar membership ]from any state
- Minimum of 7-10 years of legal experience, focusing on policy and advocacy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and lead teams.
- Extensive community and legislative experience (New Mexico legislature highly preferred.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to argue legal issues objectively and without personal bias.
- Even-keeled personality with the capacity to handle challenging situations calmly and effectively.
- Demonstrated accountability for the highest quality work.
- Sense of humor critical.
