PURPOSE
As a Manual Machinist (Lathe or Mill), you will report to the Lead Machinist and play a crucial role in our manufacturing operations by running manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other equipment to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications. Your meticulous attention to detail and adherence to quality standards will ensure the accuracy and reliability of the parts produced, contributing to the overall success of Lawler Gear.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders, to perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances for parts.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters based on job requirements and material properties.
- Monitor machining processes, adjust machine settings as needed, and perform in-process inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality of machined parts.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of manual machining equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices in machining operations, including proper handling of cutting tools, workpieces, and hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues, optimize machining processes, and meet production targets.
- Maintain accurate records of machining activities, including production logs, inspection reports, and material inventory.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in operating manual lathes, mills, drill presses, and other machining equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in selecting cutting tools, calculating machining parameters, and setting up workpieces for machining operations.
- Proficiency in machining principles, tool geometry, and cutting tool materials.
- Proficiency in precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality parts within specified tolerances.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and machine troubleshooting.
- Adherence to machining safety protocols and regulations.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage workflow efficiently, and coordinate production schedules to meet deadlines and production targets.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, onsite) based in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with a work schedule of four 10-hour days (Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm). Overtime hours are generally allowed on Friday and may vary based on production scheduling and business needs.
