POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the daily care of animals, including but not limited to cleaning cages and kennels, exercising, watering, and administering medication. Assisting in the adoption of animals and answering any phone calls.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Clean and sanitize cages.
· Feed and water the animals, clean all feeding bowls, and restock bins.
· Monitor the health of the animals and advise of potential problems; administer medication to animals under a manager’s supervision when required.
· Clean and maintain the orderliness of the lobby area.
· Receive fees for adoptions, returns, and tags.
· Educate potential adopters on choosing of the right pet for them.
· Assist with the supervision of volunteers.
· Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and City government goals.
· Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of both.
EXPERIENCE:
· Experience working with and caring for animals is preferred.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
· Proficiency in utilizing computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Shelter Management Software, etc.
· Ability to train on how to operate the in-house Tag/ID machine.
· Ability to administer medication and/or immunize animals.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to climb or balance taste or smell, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and lift/move objects up to 100 pounds. The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hand and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move objects up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly required to speak, listen, see, and lift/push objects up to 10 pounds. The use of a corrective lens to aid the employee is acceptable.
This position requires you to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to biological hazards.
