Job Description and Duties
We are excited to announce a dynamic opportunity for a motivated leader to join our team in the Big Game Conservation Unit of the Wildlife Branch. This challenging role oversees a talented group of scientists dedicated to the conservation and management of deer, elk, bear, pronghorn, wild pig, and bighorn sheep. The good thing is that you won't be alone, we are growing our team of Supervisors due to increased demand and expanding initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
-Lead and coordinate statewide species management and monitoring plans, collaborating with regional teams to ensure effective implementation.
-Provide strategic input and leadership in regional conservation initiatives, fostering collaborative relationships with Department leaders, scientists, Tribes, and diverse stakeholder groups.
-Oversee grant development within the unit and guide regional grant efforts, securing primary funding for critical positions and projects.
-Design and manage survey and modeling work to estimate and monitor big game populations, assess climate change, fire, drought, and other stressors, and make informed recommendations for hunting regulations and conservation measures.
-Work closely with the Connectivity Supervisor to understand habitat connectivity impacts on big game species, and partner with the Science Support Unit to innovate scientific protocols and modeling approaches.

Working Conditions
Should be able to work long hours in the office using a personal computer and keyboard at least several hours a day, sitting most of the time but may involve standing or sitting for brief periods. Field work may be done in uneven terrain and involve hiking for extended periods and carrying a 30 pound backpack.
Aerial surveys from a small fixed wing aircraft or helicopter will be done occasionally. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and equipment and be prepared to travel moderately using a State vehicle.
