Mission:
Vista Del Mar provides a trauma-responsive continuum of services to empower children, youth, and families in Southern California to lead fulfilling lives.
Role Overview:
- The Direct Care Staff (Youth Development Counselor: YDC) for Vista Haven ORR Program oversees successfully conducting youth development activities in a culturally sensitive, trauma informed care manner for youth in the YDC's assigned cottage. Specific tasks are assigned by the Direct Care Staff (YDC) Supervisor or Program Director for the YDC to accomplish.
Qualifications:
- Experienced in residential care preferred.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Preferred bilingual in Spanish.
- First Aid/CPR and is able to operate an agency motor vehicle.
- Able to hear and verbally communicate with others.
- Able to independently use a computer and learn necessary computer programs.
- Able to work as a team member.
- Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professional boundaries with clients and staff.
- Able represents the agency professionally and appropriately with all constituencies.
Essential Job Duties:
- Constant supervision, protection, and care of youth, individually and in groups at all times in a manner consistent with their personal rights, to ensure safety within a trauma informed framework.
- Work as a part of the treatment team to help youth in the development of various skills including social, vocational, educational, hygiene and other skills. In collaboration with the VH team, develop and implement various activities for the youth.
- In collaboration with the VDM team, develop and implement various activities for the youth.
- Demonstrates an understanding and practice of relationship-based treatment, strength-based, Trauma-informed, and culturally/LGBTQ-sensitive approach in working with youth while administering appropriate and effective interventions and sets limits for behavior per agency policy.
- Is responsible for agency vehicles under their care and signing in and out of the vehicle log sheet. Drives residents in agency vehicles as requested.
- Inspects and maintains the cleanliness of the cottage. Participates in and/or conducts cottage group meetings, and documents meeting content.
- Completes the Client Daily Log when assigned to do so.

- Ability to gracefully manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines
- Outstanding follow-through, self-directed, and highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to handle sensitive information with a high regard for confidentiality
Hourly Rate: $17-$22 an hour
Shifts: Sunday-Wednesday 8:30am-6:30pm, Sunday-Wednesday 1pm-11pm, Sunday-Wednesday 4pm-2am, Wednesday-Saturday 4pm-2am
