Lavelle School for the Blind located in Bronx, NY serves students with and without visual impairments with additional disabilities, aged 3 to 21.
Lavelle School for the Blind has an opening for an IEP Coordinator. The qualifications of the candidate and responsibilities for the position are as follows:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the evaluation process, from initial evaluation through Annual Reviews and Triennials
- Participate in the preparation of annual reviews by coordinating the information provided by all teachers and therapists
- Review teacher and related service reports for turning 5 reviews, annual reviews, and triennial evaluations for accuracy and suggest any necessary revisions
- Review draft IEPs for accuracy and compliance and suggest any necessary revisions
- Work with district chairpersons to schedule IEP meetings
- Attend IEP meetings (turning 5 reviews, annual reviews, and triennials)
- Review final copies of IEPs received from the districts for accuracy, requesting corrections or adjustments as may be necessary
- Finalize all IEP packets, gather, and send to appropriate parents, school districts, and educational team members in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively with district chairpersons
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and changes to IEPs
- Train all teachers and therapists on IEP Direct software and any updates required for annual reports and triennials
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all teachers, related service providers, support staff, and Leadership Team members
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications/ Education/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Master's Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or clinical-related service
- New York State Education Certification in Special Education, Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), Related Service Provider (i.e. SLP, School Psychologist), or similar field of study
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a teacher/clinician in a special education setting
- Experience reading and generating IEPs
- Experience participating in IEP meetings
- Experience in supervision and administration preferred.
- NYSED administrative certification (SAS/SDA/SBL/SDL) preferred.
- Knowledge of NYC School District IEP process strongly preferred

Salary and Benefits:
- Salary range based on experience: $60,000 to $90,000 for 183 day school year, plus an additional $9,836 to $14,755 for 30-day Extended School Year Summer Program

Hours and School Year:
- Full-time position
- Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
