General Description/ Summary:
Food Service Assistant perform a wide range of duties in the school environment including preparing and/or serving food, interacting with staff, cashiering, and storeroom duties and ensuring the cleanliness of work areas, tools and equipment.
Promote health and wellness of District students and staff.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma/ GED or Equivalent; must be at least 18 years of age. 2. U.S. Citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
3. Successful experience in food preparation and service and basic knowledge of food safety.
4. Minimum: Holds a valid certificate in food protection issued by the Montgomery County Department of Health;
Level 1 Certification – required
5. Proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of applications necessary to access timely and relevant information and be able to disseminate same.
Knowledge & Experience:
∙ Good math skills, record keeping and organizational ability
∙ Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
∙ Ability to understand and follow safety and sanitation procedures at all times
∙ Knowledge of supplies, food service equipment
∙ Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards
∙ Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies
Core Responsibilities:
1. Operate Child Nutrition and School Food Service Program in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Standards, Ohio Standards for School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, and provisions of State and Federal Law.
2. Maintain sanitation standards and food safety procedures in compliance with the Montgomery County Department of Health, the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.
3. Operate Point-of-Sale (POS), vending machine functions, and storage of food products and commodities.
4. Provide appropriate nutrition/ food services and support for special needs students in accordance with food allergy action plan, and/ or other District authorized accommodation plan.
5. Complies with department rules, procedures, administrative directives and regulations, district policies and procedures and local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
6. Follows sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen and kitchen equipment. 7. Responsible for correctly identifying meal components in order to assure accurate reimbursable meal counts.
8. Performs such other tasks as may be assigned.
Physical Attributes/ Demands:
Able to operate the food preparation room and areas related to supplies and equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and is occasionally required to walk, stand, lift/carry, push/pull, balance, reach/handle objects, and perform repetitive motions. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 40lbs.
Manual dexterity and stamina necessary for the effective performance of duties.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a school setting, primarily in a kitchen or cafeteria environment. Terms of Employment: 166 days
