Location:
- Candidate must be based near one of the IPM sites: Philadelphia area, McAllen, TX, Bradenton, FL
- 30 to 90 days onsite training required
- Remote position after initial training with one shift onsite every two weeks
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure consistency in medical record documentation and use of CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes
- Adherence to Government and third-party billing guidelines, AMA, AAP, CMS, and coding policies
- Develop medical coding and documentation plans and materials
- Train, coordinate, and supervise regional coding personnel
- Provide support and training to office personnel and providers
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Specialists for 'front end' workflows and business processes
- Work with EMR Specialists for standardization and workflow consistency/compliance
- Coach, counsel, and mentor coders to improve staff development, teamwork, morale, and performance
Key Duties:
- Drive consistency in clinical documentation and coding across all assigned markets
- Conduct ongoing training on clinical documentation and correct use of CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes
- Ensure services are coded and posted correctly as part of the coding team
- Delegate duties among the coding/charge posting team
- Maintain knowledge of medical terminology, standard abbreviations, anatomy, disease processes, CPT-4, and ICD-10
- Demonstrate initiative, judgement, and independent work
- Promote accountability and ownership in the work environment
- Ensure timely entry and reconciliation of all charges with Charge Entry staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education:
- Associate’s Degree or approved equivalent combination of coursework and related experience required
- AAPC CPC Certification required
Work Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in healthcare (professional) billing, health insurance, coding, or equivalent operations
- Supervisory experience required
Knowledge:
- Healthcare (professional) billing, CPT/ICD-10 coding, government/commercial follow-up, and appeals processes
- Thorough understanding of the revenue cycle
- Recruiting, training, leading, and performance management of staff
- Administrative and clerical procedures and office terminology
- Electronic equipment, computer hardware, and software
