We are looking for a Surgical Assistant to help treat patients and promote good oral health practices. What do Surgical assistants do? Surgical assistant’s duties revolve around collecting initial patient data, educating patients about what to expect prior to and following surgery, prep and clean up of surgical rooms, and assisting Dr Miller during surgical procedures. You’ll help Dr Miller -periodontist, collect diagnostic information which will allow him to diagnose and carry out treatment plans to care for teeth or gum diseases and assist Dr Miller during periodontal surgeries. As a surgical assistant, you should be reliable and be able to build trust with patients of all ages. You should have deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules and a good eye for oral diseases and anomalies. If you have a steady hand, great bedside manner, and are interested in surgical side of dentistry we’d like to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination
- Sterilize dental instruments properly
- Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
- Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
- Give instructions to patients after operations or other dental procedures
- Take CBCT scans, X-rays, clinical photos, intra-oral scans (digital impressions), and be able to transfer digital information as needed with other referral offices.
- Assist Dr Miller perform a wide array of surgical procedures (Tissue grafts, periodontal surgery/osseous surgery, extractions, smile surgery/crown lengthening, guided dynamic real time dental implant placement, etc)
- Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
- Monitor supplies & order supplies as needed
Skills
- Proven experience as dental assistant, Surgical assistant, hygienist or similar role
- Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
- Outstanding communication skills (with patients, team members, doctor, referral dental offices)
- A patient and friendly personality who is encouraging to work alongside
- Team player who builds up others around them
- Leads by example with actions - pushing others on team to become better versions of themselves
- Attention to detail
- Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job
