Madonna Mission ~ Grants Writer & Manager / part time / hybrid (remote/in-person) The grants writer & manager will support fundraising efforts at Madonna Mission, a not for profit organization serving refugee women and children in Chicago. The grants writer & manager will write LOIs, proposals, & reports for grants as well as manage all deadlines and correspondence required for each one. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Grant Writer/Manager will complete grant submissions, including narratives, budgets and other materials as requested by the donor in partnership with other teams, as needed. The individual will collaborate with team members across the organization to maintain updated knowledge of Madonna Mission’s current programs and emerging work. The successful candidate will be familiar with the issues facing refugees as well as Chicago’s landscape of refugee community support. The qualified candidate will possess strong relationship building, project management and strategic thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares clear, compelling, and competitive narratives for corporate, foundation, organization and select government grant applications, LOIs, and reports. These narratives must be tailored to each funder's focus areas, mission, specifications, and deadlines.
- Obtains supporting information and documentation from cross-department colleagues, such as program budgets and/or data, and translates that information in a way that will persuade the prospective donor.
- Provides support, information, and background materials in preparation for donor meetings to advance grant prospects.
- Gain an understanding of refugee issues, current and historical, and incorporate relevant research into proposals to support organization program goals
- Work on-site at least 1 day per week, working with and learning from our clients, in order to gather information and insights for crafting compelling narratives.
- Utilizes CRM database to record and track deadlines, relationship contacts, notes, correspondence and other details.
- Conducts fact finding to locate supporting statistics to craft compelling and current issue statements for grant proposals.
- Conducts research to identify new funders who are a good fit with the organization mission and goals.
- Supports internal coordination of grant communications across departments.
- Maintain grant content library
Qualifications
- Three or more years of successful grant writing and grants management skills required
- Ability to complete all components of assigned grants, which may include LOI, proposal, cover letter and reports, and all required supplemental materials
- Committed to an organizational mission of empowering refugees
- Excellent knowledge of proposal/reports submissions and fundraising processes
- Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
- Self-starting work habits, problem-solving, time management, and multitasking skills required
- Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding funder specifications and deadlines
- Proficiency with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite
- Experience with database management
- Ability to translate research data into an easy to understand format
- Writing sample required
Salary: $50 to $75 per hour, commensurate with experience.
