JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist –Registered will work in all areas of the laboratory. Those being chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis, blood gases, coagulation, and serology. Tests will be performed on blood, body fluids, and tissues as ordered by the patient’s physician. **Must be able to meet job requirements for phlebotomist as required.
The Medical Technologist – Registered reports directly to the Section Supervisor or Laboratory Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
a.) Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology from an accredited university; or successfully completed academic studies of 3 years meeting the specific requirements for entrance into an accredited school of medical technology or Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences to include at least 1-year pertinent full-time laboratory experience or training in appropriate subspecialty of high complexity testing as outlined in CFR493.1491.
a.) MT (ASCP, AMT or equivalent) required
a.) Technically competent in trained laboratory sections and is capable of
performing patient care for all age groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES
1. Review all policies and procedures initially and at the time of revisions or when new procedures are offered and applicable to their job responsibilities. Will recommend improvements as warranted. Will also stay current with communication requirements from various sources (e.g., lab leadership, organizational communications, etc.).
2. Operates all laboratory equipment as trained. Is competent with performing maintenance and calibration as necessary. Performs, monitors, and approves QC requirements as necessary. (1 or 5)
3. Is current with acceptable with levels of CEU requirements. (0 or 5)
4. Performs patient testing in an appropriate manner such that the quality and accuracy of results are acceptable. Identifies and corrects problems with specimen/instruments that could adversely affect patient care. (1 or 5)
5. Participates and successfully passes proficiency testing requirements. Participates and successfully passes competency testing requirements. Participates in special projects as required by supervisor and/or director.
6. Will use applicable safety devices and/or PPE’s when handling and testing biohazardous materials.
