About the State Fair of Texas
Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
This role is mainly responsible for the company’s work orders and fixtures. Working closely with each department head to keep track of work order requests. Knowledge of labor is needed to be more successful in this field.
This position will require knowledge of building construction and other structures during SFT set-up and ensure all operations are completed in compliance with SFT standards and regulations; provide construction set up for rides, shows, and SFT sponsored entertainment; assist in maintaining and repairing construction projects including private SFT buildings and grounds.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

Coordinate with other departments in effort to operationally provide the support necessary for production and construction.

Assisting in construction needs both before and during State Fair, including replacement, repair, and deconstruction of the SFT grounds.

Able to work outside in various weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Understanding and alignment with the core values of the State Fair of Texas.

Have basic knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of building construction and SFT general practices.

SFT building standards, basic understanding of building requirements, and other applicable systems.

Basic mathematics as applied to electrical/ construction/inspection work.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.

Interpret and communicate city codes and ordinances to construction staff to properly and safely operate SFT apparatus.

Maintain effective working relationships.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
-
High School Diploma or higher level of education.
-
Previous work experience in maintenance.

Oral and written communication.
License or Certificate:
-
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED

Reports to Supervisor – Fairtime Operations

Work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:

Working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.
