Job Title: Maintenance Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION
Oak Park Schools is truly a neighborhood school district, with one high school, one middle school, three elementary schools, one credit recovery academy, newly renovated early childhood center and one administrative office building. The buildings are in the heart of the City of Oak Park, located within a three-mile radius. With the leadership of the Superintendent, 19 district and building leaders, 235 teachers, 36 paraprofessionals and approximately 250 contracted employees, the district thrives to develop and support the academic, social and emotional growth of approximately 3,570 students who are eager to learn, discover and grow. This position reports to the Director of Operations. The primary role of the Maintenance Technician is to repair and perform maintenance services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications a plus
Valid driver’s license
Thorough knowledge of maintenance methods, procedures, practices, tools, and equipment of maintenance
Strong computer skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, electrical schematics, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manual
Preferred Experience
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, and school community
Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to multi-task with a successful rate of job completion
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly such as painting, minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry
Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities and repairs with OPS staff and contractors
Complete daily work orders created by OPS staff
Maintain and update maintenance system
Order inventory for maintenance items as needed
Conduct regular inspections of school facilities and address maintenance needs (including but not limited to roofs, lockers, doors, etc.
Help in conducting preventive maintenance tasks according to schedules
District wide filter changes
Accurately order and account for material and labor relative to position
Manage technology as it pertains to essential communication and to maximizing the opportunity operate the school day with the highest level of health and safety
Assist HVAC Skilled Maintenance Technician as needed
Maintain school grounds, including landscaping and snow removal when needed
Ability to read technical manuals and drawings
Experience with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Perform other skills maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Operations
