Position description: Youth Services Librarian
General Statement: Promotes, plans, and carries out the programs and activities of the Children’s Department.
Required knowledge and skills: Ability to establish a good relationship with youth, parents, teachers, community leaders and library staff.
Knowledge and understanding of children’s and young adult literature and library services for youth.
Genuine interest and concern for youth.
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
Requirements: Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with the public.
Ability to follow directions and pay attention to detail.
Familiarity with the Library's established policies, practices, and procedures.
Familiarity with the Library's organization, services and resources.
PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Federal Criminal
History background check and State Criminal Record
Check.
Training: Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Responsibilities: Responsible for the total program operation of the
Children’s Department and serve as its head.
Responsible to and under the supervision of the
Executive Director plans and implements programs and activities for the Children’s Department.
Regular Duties: Plans, supervises and participates in all Children’s
Department activities and recommends procedural changes as needed, including working evenings and
Saturdays.
Regular Duties continued: Supervises activities and responsibilities of library staff assigned to the Children’s Department. Prepares schedule for coverage of Children’s Department.
Actively promotes library service through social media, local media and local organizations, personal speaking engagements and other public relations activities.
Visits public, parochial and charter schools on a regular basis and establishes good rapport with the schools.
Maintains contacts with teachers, parent clubs, PTAs, and community groups, especially those concerned with youth.
Plans and implements programs and activities for the
Children’s Department.
Selects library materials for the youth’s reference, circulating print and audio-visual collections.
Provides tours and library instruction as required.
Provides instruction for patrons in use of computers and the Internet.
Prepares and compiles statistics and reports of youth services.
Keeps current with professional developments in the area of youth services.
Attends and participates in professional meetings as required.
Provides professional assistance to library in the District and System.
Serves in an advisory capacity to the Executive Director.
Additional duties as required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
