Job Summary
The Sr Advisor - Marine position provides marine operations and operational risk support for the company’s fleet operations, new build programs, modification projects, upgrade projects and marketing support. This support includes acting as liaison with class, flag, marine warranty surveyors, industry committees and 3 rd party Vendors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the Sr. Principle and Principle Marine positions
- Responsible for having knowledge of the Company Safety Management System and demonstrating visible leadership in support of the Valaris Values
- Supports marketing tender efforts and bid clarifications
- Supports Valaris Management Systems (VMS) and technical marine document reviews and revisions
- Provides guidance with respect to: DP operations, power and thruster management, simultaneous operations, safe navigation, collision avoidance, general safety and pollution prevention, and vessel stability
- Maintains, promotes understanding, and complies with Rig Specific DP Operations Manuals
- Identifies, mentors, and assesses high potential candidates for advancement within the marine craft
- Participates in incident investigations and verify that investigations are carried out effectively and that appropriate corrective action is agreed upon and implemented in a timely manner
- Maintains current knowledge of marine industry standards, practices, and methodologies as well as Class, IMO, and marine regulatory requirements
- Travels to company facilities to conduct marine inspections, carry out training, audits and investigate marine related accidents or incidents as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in relevant field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 4 years in the marine industry preferably the offshore drilling industry
- Marine supervisory experience
Skills & Experience
- Possess valid Unlimited DP certification from a certifying body such as The Nautical Institute or equivalent certifying body.
- Computer literacy to facilitate the use of company provided software utilized in daily business
- Working knowledge of Classification Rules, Statutory Regulations, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Codes, and industry standards
- Ability to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process
- Ability to plan, strategize, and direct marine operational issues as required
- Ability to lead and influence
- Physically capable of being transported to an offshore rig by boat or helicopter
- Ability to maintain and handle confidential documentation and information
- Good communication skills: oral and written
- Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently
