Carroll County Youth Service Bureau (CCYSB) is seeking a Peer Support Specialist will support clients and families in our Open Access and Suicide Intervention and Prevention (SIP) programs. Open Access offers walk-in assessment services on a same-day/next-day basis. SIP address gaps in services within our community related to access to youth under 18 presenting with suicide and/or self-injury behaviors, and provides consultation, assessment, and connection to aftercare services.
As a Peer Support Specialist, you will work one-on-one and/or in a group setting to support clients of all ages, and families, in their efforts with recovery in both mental health and substance use diagnoses. The Peer Support Specialist will often be working with adults and families to help navigate through individual crises, or crises impacting the family system related to mental health and/or substance use. This person will be working in a team atmosphere alongside licensed clinicians, physicians, referral coordinators, and other administrative staff. This position also includes tasks related to data collection and management.
To be qualified for the position, candidates MUST HAVE a personal history of substance abuse issues and/or mental health diagnosis and be well along with their recovery (at least one year sobriety). Preferred candidates will be a Certified Peer Specialist. If not currently certified, it is expected that the peer will work with Maryland Addiction and Behavioral Health Professional Certification Board to obtain certification.
One year of previous experience working with adults with mental illness is also required. The person in this position will also have the opportunity to become certified as an Application Counselor to help clients obtain Medicaid.
To be considered for this role you must have the following requirements/experience:
- High school diploma required
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently while also working as a team
- Experience with an electronic health records program a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
This position is Full Time, Flexible M-F with some evenings required.
