Allergy MD, an established Allergy, Asthma and Immunology medical practice, is seeking a self-motivated, people-friendly Medical Assistant for our (new, fun, beautiful) Brooklyn office and our established LIC office .
Responsibilities
- Schedule, register, and perform follow up calls with patients
- Greet and attend to patients in person and over the phone
- Calls patients to schedule follow up appointments
- Keep doctors aware of requirements of insurance companies for all patients
- Manages the flow of patients in and out of exam rooms
- Professionally assist doctors, staff, visitors and patients
- Answer all phone calls and communication in a professional and courteous manner
- Collect copayments and verify insurance eligibility
- Liaise between medical departments with discretion and professionalism
- Assists the doctors in the examination of patients
- Setting up rooms and instruments; making sure there is a professional and clean environment for the patient and MD
- Recording patient histories and medications
- Ensure patient’s allergies are clearly displayed in chart
- Assists in office procedures
- Performs some testing under supervision
- Cleans and prepares all instruments in the exam rooms, keeps exam rooms stocked with supplies and samples, makes sure rooms are ready for next day visits
- Checks inventory and orders replacements when needed
- Manages hazardous wastes, and medical equipment. Performs routine maintenance for certain medical equipment
- Has some knowledge of medicine, prescriptions, dosages, etc. Calls in prescriptions for the doctors
- Aids doctor in returning patient calls at appropriate times during the daily routine
- Fills all shortages of medical supplies with reorders, fills out all necessary paperwork when ordering
- Keep doctors aware of requirements of insurance companies for all patients
- Manages the flow of patients in and out of exam rooms
- Explains tests and procedures to patients when appropriate
- Informs doctor when he/she is running behind schedule
- Ad-hoc projects
Job Requirements:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Fluency in both languages.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
- Must be able to work in independently
- Must be flexible with schedule
- Eclinical or other EMR system is a plus
- Previous experience is a plus
- Medical assistant certificate required
- Must possess strong communication skills
