The Jewish Association on Aging is seeking a Driver to join our team at our Squirrel Hill location. This position is responsible for transporting residents of our personal care community in a safe and timely manner, while adhering to company guidelines and safety standards.
Job Description
Drives a thirteen-passenger van or its general equivalent, to transport residents and other passengers to and from the facility. Assists the residents getting on and off the van safely. Operates the wheelchair lift when appropriate. Performs routine vehicle maintenance (e.g. checking oil, water, and tires) and reports non-routine problems as detected. Works flexible hours to accommodate special outings and activities.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates facility van in a safe and courteous manner.
Maintains defensive driving.
Assists with passengers, including passengers with physical disabilities, on and off the van, operate ramps, lifts, and securement devices as needed.
Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route for the residents.
Presents safety briefing to the patients and assists with maintaining their safety when they are unable to perform the function (e.g.. fasten seat belts, secure walkers and all other carry-on items).
Keeps the van clean inside and outside.
Performs minor maintenance as required (e.g., checking oil, tires)
Fuels the van as needed.
Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic maintenance with appropriate personnel.
Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers.
Maintains a professional standard of conduct, projecting a positive image of the JAA at all times.
Maintains the confidentiality of patients and others.
Complies with infection control and safety policies/procedures.
Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school degree or equivalent with a minimum of one years experience.
Valid drivers license with clean driving record.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skills in the operation of vans or equivalent
Knowledge of Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Shadyside and surrounding areas
Ability to follow routing verbal and written instructions
Ability to perform routine maintenance and to identify vehicle problems/malfunctions
Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic regulations
Strong customer service orientation
Must be able to lift a minimum of thirty pounds
Must be able to movefreely throughout the van
