Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager will be an integral part of a dynamic team, and is responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing partnerships with major donors and sponsors, and securing funds to support SafeLIGHT programand services.
The Development Manager will secure corporate sponsorship for special events and forge new relationships to build financial support. The Development Manager will design and implement an annual appeal program and cultivate targeted individuals, corporations and foundations for financial support. The Development Manager will also research, write and submit compelling grant proposals to support SafeLIGHT Foundation programs. The Development Manager will systematically and effectively strengthen SafeLIGHT Foundation’s overall fundraising capacity by ensuring fundraising goals are met and revenues raised will increase over the years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Director with the execution of a fund development plan with targeted fundraising goals.
- Work with the SafeLIGHT Foundation Board of Directors.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with all donors, and ensure and secure continued financial support.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with prospective donors.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development strategy to secure corporate and foundation grants and sponsorships.
- Research, write and submit grant applications.
- Maintain a grants calendar, compile reports and prepare organizational documents for foundation submission.
- Plan and execute an annual fund campaign, including designing the campaign, procuring materials, executing a mail, email and online campaign, and creating progress reports for internal and external use.
- Plan and execute an annual benefit, which includes program design, host committee and ticket sales, invitation design, vendor recruitment and management, and donor follow-up.
- Assist with the planning and execution of other fundraising events and public programs, ensuring necessary follow-up after events and programs.
- Ensure the SafeLIGHT Foundation is hitting its fundraising goals, adhering to its budget, monitoring costs and identifying future fundraising opportunities that are critical for continued growth.
- Provide monthly measurable fundraising results.
- Manage the donor database and tracking system and ensure data entry and gift processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or nonprofit leadership preferred
- At least two years of experience in fundraising or a related field
- Solid record of fundraising success
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency with donor databases and websites is highly desirable
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-directed and a strong ability to work courteously with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative
- Solid planning and organizational skills
- Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
- Valid driver’s license; familiarity with the Chicago land area
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights and weekends as needed)
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
