POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for semi-monthly payroll, day-to-day accounts payables, monthly revenue journal entry, recording monthly GAAP related journal entries, ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISES: Not applicable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: To be successful in this position, the Staff Accountant must be willing and be able to perform the following essential functions always:
- Record monthly GAAP journal entries (i.e. prepaids, fixed assets, deferred rent, bad debt expense, routine and non-routine)
- Record payroll journal entries (semi-monthly payroll, monthly accrual, taxes)
- Record monthly revenue journal entries and cash postings entries
- Monthly reconciliation of the general ledger balance sheet accounts, including locating appropriate support for entries made to accounts, analyzing balances, researching discrepancies, and preparing entries as needed
- Generate standard reporting management
- Prepare reports for governmental and tax compliance
- Provide support for annual internal and external audits
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal reports.
- Prepare bank account reconciliation
- Prepare monthly allocation and journal entries for contracted programs
- Prepare monthly management analysis reports
- Prepare correspondence, mailings, and priority shipments for the Accounting Department
- Perform periodic audits of vendor invoices
- Review monthly fluctuations to all general ledger accounts
- Maintain files as needed within the Accounting Department
- Assists with monthly budget-to-actual analysis
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned by Controller
KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Strong accounting background in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger;
- Knowledge of fund accounting systems and the Federal Uniform Guidance, a plus;
- Familiarity with Single Audits and nonprofit accounting;
SKILLS
- Must have strong computer skills with proficiencies in using computerized accounting systems and must have intermediate level of experience using MS Excel with the ability to import/export data and
ABILITIES:
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines;
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills;
- Must be flexible and able to multi-task while working in a collaborative, team environment with a positive attitude.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from Accredited Institution in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Non-Profit Accounting, government funded a plus.
- Proficiency in utilizing accounting software and Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel.
