About the Position
While our trucks move freight, our employees drive the company. Our HR & Administrative
Manager serves a critical role in building a healthy, high-performance culture dedicated to
serving internal and external customers. This role provides people operations and
administration support for the whole company. The HR & Administrative Manager has a highly visible role in the organization and forms working relationships to collaborate and inspire results. The incumbent will have the ability to think on their feet, be responsive, and
accountable while working with a high level of autonomy, privacy, and independence.
Common Duties and Responsibilities
Management
- Participate in regular management meetings providing updates on assigned projects and presenting issues to the rest of the leadership team for discussion
- Oversee timely completion of projects and accurate reporting of metrics
- Provide leadership, communication, and coaching to department supervisors
- Acknowledge, promote, and share employee successes with the company
- Identify opportunities to develop and train team members
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained with proactive recruiting efforts
- Contribute to a healthy business culture exhibiting company core values
- Manages company HR policy with oversight of business practices in accordance applicable laws
Human Resources & Administration
- Coordinates management and company meetings
- Owns company culture including defining benchmarks, goals, and reporting
- Manages recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff
- Provides best practice input for organizational & employee development and performance management
- Oversees company insurance and compensation programs including benchmarking and vendor selection
- Develop rapport with driver and dock teams
- Manage maintenance and safety for company assets including trucks, trailers, and tools
- Monitor quality of work and service delivery identifying opportunities for improvement
- Cross-train in dispatch, customer service, and dock operations for leave and emergency coverage support
Qualifications
- Seven year’s experience in a HR leadership role
- Formal education in HR including obtaining a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- HR Certification (PHR/SHRM), highly preferred
- High degree of familiarity with California and Federal labor laws, required
- Familiarity with warehouse, trucking, or industrial operations
- Ability to work a full-time flexible schedule that may include occasional early mornings
- Individual responsibility with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Skill in working with business computers including common office applications
