General Description of the Job
The Machining Supervisor is responsible for the personnel and processes of the Machining Department, ensuring a safe work environment, following all quality control measures, and maintaining a high level of operational efficiency. The Supervisor manages staff by selecting, training, coaching, setting goals, and disciplining employees. Supervisory responsibilities include the scheduling and assignment of work, appraising performance, addressing complaints, resolving problems and conflicts, measuring and reporting of key performance metrics of the department.
The Machining Supervisor supports operational excellence within the department by driving continual improvement in quality and productivity, controlling costs, with a keen focus of meeting key metrics and goals.
Key Interactions and Relationships
Routine interactions include Quality, Engineering, Planning, Maintenance, and Purchasing.
Supervisors of other departments, HR, and Management.
Qualifications
Training and Experience
-
Minimum 7-years’ experience in the setup and operation of Machining equipment in precision manufacturing.

Minimum 5-years’ experience in a production team leadership role.

Broad knowledge of machining processes and methods.
-
Experience in AS9100 and Nadcap quality systems preferred.

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methods and standards including SMED.

Excels in the use of business software systems, (ERP, Microsoft Suite, etc.)

Experience in hiring and developing new team members in a production environment.

Able to manage complex issues in a fast-paced work environment, and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.

Advanced blueprint reading skill, including GD&T.
-
Use of data gathering tools to monitor performance of department and reporting of progress for goals and objectives.
Education, Licenses and Certifications
-
Degree, or equivalent in Business, Engineering, or related disciplines preferred, but may be substituted with advanced technical degree, or certification in manufacturing, and years of experience.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Primary Routine Work –

Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing company standards and procedures while complying with legal regulations.

Ensure employees are trained and follow all Company Safety, Quality, and Operating procedures.

Ensure all department equipment is in good repair, and Preventive Maintenance procedures are scheduled and maintained.

Plan, organize, and schedule production requirements in a cost-effective manner, and a commitment to meeting customer requirements.

Manage shift scheduling, and overtime assignments to meet customer requirements, and maintain company performance goals.

Recommend / establish, and monitor department Key Performance Metrics.

Analyze and report department performance, and implement Corrective Actions to optimize throughput, improve quality, and reduce cost.

Train, and coach employees to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their job duties, and according to the needs specified in the Skills Matrix.

Set employee goals, and expectations, and conduct ongoing feedback and performance reviews.

Work with employees to manage and resolve conflicts.

Assist Engineering in determining production methods and estimating costs.

Ensure the uninterrupted supply of department consumables.

Lead continuous improvement endeavors throughout the department, including the use of Lean Manufacturing strategies.
