Position: Senior Accountant Classification: Exempt
Department Title:Accounting/Finance Reports To: Accounting/Finance Director
Position Summary:
Senior Accountant has a wide range of responsibilities related to accounting and finance. The Senior Accountant should have a working knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit fund accounting and experience in meeting the Head Start fiscal requirements and familiarity with the fiscal requirements of State of Illinois early childhood funded programs. The Senior Accountant will function as part of a 5-member team focused on ensuring the daily fiscal operations are executed correctly, comprehensively, and timely. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for various duties and responsibilities listed below including cross training.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Allocate bi-weekly payroll and fringe benefits into proper cost centers/programs.
- Execute fiscal monitoring for assigned Community Partners retrieving necessary documentation.
- Aid Purchasing & Facilities Dept. in physical inventory count of HBH equipment.
- Prepares journal entries, monitors, and reconciles general ledger activity.
- Prepares vouchers for federal, city and state reimbursement.
- Tracks, monitors, and updates payment details of incoming cash receipts for HS, EHS, and EHS-CCP, WIC, HFI, and MIECHV
- Annual budget preparation, budget revisions, and monthly budget to actual reporting for WIC, HFI, and MIECHV
- Tracks, monitors, and reports of In-Kind/Non-Federal Share
- Assists in the preparation of the month end closing.
- Assists in year-end audit preparation and other Fiscal Funder reviews
- Assists with cost allocation assignments/calculations.
- Prepares and submits Periodic Financial Reports (PFR) required by state agencies.
- Reconciles monthly bank statements, processes Accounts Payable, Processes Accounts Receivable (Back Up Responsibilities/Cross Training)
- Assists with resolving uncollected amounts or aging payables over 90 days.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or equivalent is required.
· CPA or advanced degree a plus
- At least five (5) years accounting experience is required -7 years preferred.
- Nonprofit fund accounting experience a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel / Word and Fund EZ or other ERP Systems
- Ability to follow the policies and procedures of Henry Booth House
- Performs or demonstrates the ability to perform a variety of technical fiscal support and account record-keeping work.
