Journeyman Pay Grade: 19H Salary PLUS $20,000 ANNUAL CERT PAY= $70,324.80 -$ 91,332.80
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled work of journeyman level in constructing, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution and transmission systems.
Tasks:
- Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
- Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
- Replace or straighten damaged poles.
- Complies with safety policies and procedures.
- Dig holes, using augers and set poles, using cranes and power equipment.
- Attach cross-arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles prior to installing them.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers and switches.
- Trims trees.
- Takes inventory.
- Stands a regularly scheduled standby watch.
- Installs Christmas decorations and decorations for special events.
- Works in adverse weather conditions.
- Deals with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image of the City and handles complaints tactfully.
- All employees of the City of Winfield are subject to immediate callout when an emergency, disaster or breach of homeland security occurs. Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities to his/her regular job responsibilities and incorporate other non-job-related duties as necessary and required of an employee. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over an extended period with infrequent breaks or rest periods.

Experience and Education:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and exhibits knowledge of electrical distribution work.
- Completion of 8,000 hours under the supervision of a Journeyman as well as certified through Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU) and the completion of four books/8 sections.
- Must have or acquire within the probationary period a commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb poles, bend, kneel, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull and perform a variety of similar body movements.
- Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate for climbing poles, operating a digger and other equipment, and driving a truck.
- Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio and to hear faulty malfunctions of equipment.
- Ability to see adequately for reading maps, work orders, instructions, computer screen, and to function safely in hazardous conditions.
