You will work closely with the healthcare team to ensure a safe and supportive environment for both patients and staff. This position is Part-Time with rotating Days and Nights 6:30 am and 6:30 pm start times, open to flexible scheduling.
The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in UPMCs Patient Care Support Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Communication & Relationships: Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, understand cultural diversity, and maintain professional relationships.
- Patient Care: Perform core patient care tasks including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning), point of care testing, vital signs, and specimen collection.
- Advanced Skills: Achieve competency in advanced skills such as basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12 lead EKG, and NG tube management.
- Support & Feedback: Assist with therapies, provide feedback to RNs, and instruct patients and families under RN direction.
- Professional Development: Receive and act on feedback, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review and committee work.
- Departmental Support: Suggest and support departmental changes, adhere to policies and procedures, and document patient care accurately.
- Additional Duties: Transport cardiac monitored patients, perform IV and catheter procedures, and complete clerical functions as needed.
