The Mail Sorter is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of mail items. This role involves sweeping and organizing mail, conducting quality control checks, operating mail processing machines, maintaining documentation, and working with efficiency and productivity in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should have previous experience in a similar role, knowledge of mail sorting processes, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure. General Duties & Responsibilities
- Placing mail from high-speed sorting machines into trays and in accordance with USPS standards
- Sleeve mail, place on destination pallets, and shrink wrap
- Ensures that finished mail is organized neatly and placed right side up, facing forward
- Ensures that jammed mail is forwarded to the assigned bin to be properly sorted under proper client number, to avoid double counts on the machine
- Forwards empty and unsealed envelopes to the correction department
- Responsible for maintaining logs, documenting any irregularities or discrepancies in the mail, and reporting them to the supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Cleaning, stocking and organizing the production area
- Communicate errors and recognize bad barcodes found in the mail
- Meet productivity targets and deadlines while maintaining high levels of accuracy
- Work efficiently and effectively to contribute to the overall success of our mail-processing operations
- Keeps work area clean by placing mail bins under machines or in
- Troubleshoot and remove mail piece jams from machine
- Picks up plastic straps and strapping material off floors to prevent possible tripping hazards
- Perform all additional duties as required
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Additional relevant certifications or training in mail processing operations will be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a mail service or postal environment, is highly desirable.
- Ability to read bin numbers and match them to mail trays
- Enjoys a fast-paced, physical production environment while developing new skills in the mailing industry
- Knowledge of mail sorting processes, including an understanding of barcodes, ZIP codes, and postal regulations, is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate sorting and tracking of mail items.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in using mail processing software and equipment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to handle mail trays and operate machinery.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.
- Understands and follows safety and other operational directions
- Ability to work overtime which may include weekends, holidays and or a different shift with little or no advance notice
- Ability to be dependable, reliable and work independently

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
