Martin County High School currently has an opening for a Teacher & Basketball Coach for the upcoming school year. This is a 10-month position, but it also comes with 2 additional weeks of employment. SUPERVISES: Teacher Assistant(s), if applicable; Assistant Coach(es)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months + 2 Weeks of Extended Employment
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from an approved teacher education program in subject area

North Carolina Professional Educator's License in area of assignment.

NATURE OF WORK: The Teacher's job is to assure that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level. The head basketball coach will instruct student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The head basketball coach will also develop and promote good community relations among various community and school stakeholders.

Head Basketball Coach

Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in basketball

Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season

Works closely with the athletics director in scheduling interscholastic contests

Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate

Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records and similar paperwork
-
Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which basketball is conducted at all times that students are present

Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in basketball
-
Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Teacher & Basketball Coach job classification within Martin County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work and requires the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift objects and a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
