Neurology Veterinary Technician
General Description of Position:
Neurology Veterinary Technicians are critically important to the successful diagnosis and treatment of these special patients. Neurology Technicians help care for pets from initial exam through discharge. Providing care for emergent cases and building relationships with clients and patients. Fear Free and attention to detail are the most important factors for successful treatment and to diminish stress of being in the hospital. Our Neurology Technicians perform advanced imaging using CT and MRI modalities and anesthesia support during neurosurgical procedures. Working collaboratively with Veterinarians and participation in rounds; along with educating other technicians on the Neurology Department and specialized care of these patients.
Essential Functions:
· Report to work at scheduled time
· Must be a CVT or CVT eligible
· Can lift and restrain up to 40lbs
· Ability to professionally communicate with clients during consults, admits, discharges, call backs, rechecks, etc.
· Develop knowledge of the surgical procedures being performed as well as complications that may arise. Be able to communicate these things with the ICU staff that is taking care of them post operatively.
· Create treatment sheets, script and fill medications if you are directed to do so by the clinician.
· Able to properly run bloodwork and correctly package and submit samples to various lab locations
Primary job responsibilities include:
- Provide anesthesia and nursing care for the Neurology Service
- Train in Emergency care, anesthesia, surgery, and recovery for all patients
- Ability to train in CT/MRI modalities
- Assist with all aspects of patient care from admission through discharge, including departmental rounds
- Communicate with clients and help manage long term patient care
- Communicate with surgery staff to coordinate operating room needs for neurosurgeries
- Motivated self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
- Help provide neurological patient education to clients and fellow Staff
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of the techniques associated with advanced neurology care of veterinary patients is preferred, but not required
· Strong skill in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia protocols and monitoring and the post-operative care preferred but not required
· Willing to train the right candidate that shares our core values and mission
· Must be able to work successfully as part of a team
· Ability to communicate clearly with clients and staff members

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
