I. Job Summary:
The License Vocational Nurse, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse,
demonstrates critical thinking skill and scientific judgement to provide safe and effective
nursing care to all patients utilizing the nursing process.
II. Essential Job Functions:
A. All duties and responsibilities shall be in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws. When serving in an institution, the LVN follows the LVN job description, policies, and procedures established by the assigned facility.
B. The LVN is responsible for seeking and obtaining sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the health care setting where assigned.
C. Specific tasks shall include, but are not limited to the following:
· To provide nursing care through implementation and evaluation of patient’s nursing care plans written by a registered nurse.
· To contribute to the formulation / revision of nursing care plans under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
· To implement orders for medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician in the medical plan of treatment.
· To be an active member of the health care team, assisting the physician and/or registered nurse, in performing specialized procedures. In addition, to preparing equipment and materials for treatment and observing aseptic techniques.
· To complete, maintain, and submit accurate and complete clinical and progress notes regarding patient’s condition and care given.
· To observe the patient for changes in condition and to report these changes and the patient’s needs to the appropriate RN.
· To teach the patient self-care techniques as appropriate to provide medication, diet and other instructions as ordered by the physician.
· To assist the patient with the activities of daily living.
· To provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient.
· To assist the patient’s family and other health care personnel in providing continuity of care.
· To work in cooperation with the family and other health care team members to meet the emotional needs of the patient and family.
· To accept responsibility of assignment to a specialty area only when qualifying with specialty training, proven competency, clinical background, and expertise in the specialty area.
· To perform within the limits of preparation and experience.
. Organizational Relationship:
Licensed Practical Nurse reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor with in MedRelief. While on assignment the LVN is accountable to the department Supervisor/Manager.
