Job Overview
The part-time Health and Physical Education Resource Teacher (HPERT) focuses on developing lessons, assessments, and curriculum that support inquiry, Project Based Learning and Personalized Learning in the areas of health and physical education for grades K-12. The HPERT assists the supervisor in creating a professional development plan to support this instruction; and provides assistance to HPE teachers as they implement lessons, projects and curricula in the classroom and/or the gymnasium. The responsibilities also include assisting with instructional programming as needed for all the other content areas in the HPE office.
Roles and Responsibilities

Supports the HPE Supervisor in ensuring the programs are consistent with the LCPS Strategic Framework and include the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Learning and other requirements.

Develops model lessons and assessments for K-12 Health and Physical Education, works with the HPE supervisor
to evaluate and enhance the curriculum, and consults with classroom teachers on Health and PE
instruction, remediation, intervention, and enrichment.

Assists in the development, coordination, revision, and edits of curriculum for specific courses and programs within the office responsibilities.

Contributes to develop and implement professional learning plans that support the HPE, APE, DE, FLE teachers.

Maintain a current working knowledge and understanding of best practices for quality HPE, APE, DE, FLE.

Works with schools to maintain a current inventory of equipment as well as prepares for distribution of all supplies and equipment.

Coordinates CPR training and certifications in partnership Human Resources and Talent Development.

Specific responsibilities related to Driver Education & Behind the Wheel Instruction include – curriculum alignment, organizing the state-mandated Partners for Safe Teen Driving presentation, managing state reports, recruitment, compliance with driver licensing regulations, vehicle assignment and coordinating maintenance, streamlining the application process for access to services and fee collection, equity of access to services, obtaining and distributing licensing forms, ensuring state and local guidelines are followed with classroom Driver Education and Behind the Wheel Instruction.

Plan, organize, and implement Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs at the elementary and middle schools; support school sites’ SRTS efforts; communicate and coordinate with community organizations, law enforcement, advocacy groups and city/county officials, and support a variety of SRTS initiatives.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience
At least three years of successful full-time teaching experience with an emphasis in HPE preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Health and Physical Education preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of project-based learning, performance-based assessment, personalized learning, and other student-centered instructional frameworks

Understanding of adult learning and coaching

Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with administrators, teachers, students, parents, school personnel and members of the community
