POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Special Events & Major Gifts works with the Vice President of Development to achieve the budgeted special events net income and growth goals of $1,000,000to meet the growing needs of the MS community. This role includes a significant focus on the growth and development of event committees, prospecting for new sources of event income, and building new relationships with corporations and prospects. In addition, this role manages its own portfolio of major donors, and leads new major gifts tracking systems in support of annual major giving income goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With the direction and close coordination of the VP of Development, act as the lead for MSAA’s current suite of 5 fundraising events, including our Improving Lives Benefit, Women of Action Luncheons & Fashion Shows, Team MSAA, and additional DIY event growth, to meet and exceed budgeted net income, including:
- Strategy and Timelines
- Event websites
- Event Committees and recruitment activities (can include occasional evenings and weekends)
- Creating and writing fundraising communication pieces for print, email, digital, and social media outreach
- Prospecting, identifying, and confirming corporate sponsorships
- Participant experience, including post-event surveys
- Event Logistics
- Leverage Special Events to increase income, expand corporate relationships, and bridge participants to further engagement
- Identify and cultivate new sources of corporate and sponsorship prospects through such activities as attending networking events, performing landscape research, collaborating with committee members, and participant engagement
- Develop the strategy and implement new special event income areas to support significant growth, year over year, as defined in the budgeting process
- Manage an assigned portfolio of major donors to meet and/or exceed income goals
- Review ongoing and oversee stewardship of gifts in the $1,000 -$2,500 category, develop donor profiles of targeted individuals to meet and exceed annual major giving income goal
- Evaluate fundraising activities by keeping records on individual events and campaigns and analyze data results, while leading event-by-event reconciliation with finance
- Closely liaise with the Development Operations team on data reporting and requests
REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum of BA/BS preferred
· 5+ years demonstrated success in special events and mid-level to major giving
· Experience cultivating donor relationships over time
· Very strong fundraising communication writing skills
· Understanding of development and nonprofit budgeting
· Very strong organizational and time management skills
· Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
· Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness
· Strong financial skills
· Professional, collaborative style
· Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
· Flexible and adaptive style
· Skilled at leveraging Salesforce or other CRM software
· High energy and passion for MSAA’s mission
· Ability to travel 25%-35% of the time in support of 5+ events
· Candidates near the Philadelphia metro area preferred, though candidates in other metros encouraged to apply
