Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis. This role requires someone who is comfortable working with the public and is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
In this role, you will:
Shelve and straighten Library materials
Maintain assigned sections through regular shelf-reading and shifting.
Assist in processing incoming and outgoing deliveries.
Monitor book drop area for material returns.
Complete customer request lists and retrieve materials as assigned.
You will need to be:
Able to arrange items in a certain order according to a specific set of rules.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Able to learn Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
You will need to have:
No prior experience or training, however, previous library volunteer experience is a plus.

A Carnegie Library originally built in 1927, Carpenter Library has been renovated and expanded at its original location
Offers public services on one floor
Dedicated youth area for children and teens
Spaces include a computer lab, auditorium, 4 quiet rooms, and mezzanine area

Carpenter Library has been serving south-city residents for over 96 years. The branch is located at the end of the South Grand ‘international district’ and serves a diverse population, including the neighborhoods of Tower Grove East, Tower Grove South, Benton Park, Benton Park West, and Dutchtown. Our collections reflect the diversity of our community, as do our programs and services.
