The Jefferson County Water Authority is accepting applications for an entry level water plant operator. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which requires rotation of shift work (days, evenings, midnights, weekends and most holidays), and has an excellent benefits package with license incentives and shift differential. Applicants must have a valid Missouri driver's license, high school diploma and/or equivalent and be able to obtain a Missouri Department of Natural Resources "D" water treatment license within 24 months of hire. Applicants must pass a drug screening, physical, and background check, physical requirements must be able to lift 50 lbs., along with being able to climb stairs, push, pull, bend, stoop, and lift. Location Requirements must have a response time within a 45 min radius of the facility.
Summary:
Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment facility. Assist as assigned in the operation of the water treatment facility to ensure compliance with the MDNR (Missouri Department of Natural Resources) regulations. Receives and acts on the instructions from the Plant Manager and performs related work as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include, but not limited to the following:
· Perform in a safe and efficient manner during all aspects of plant operations.
· Observe all safety rules and wear personal protective equipment as required.
· Work a variety of shifts, holidays, and weekends
· Operate, maintain, repair treatment facility and meter vaults.
· Regularly monitor pumping and water treatment via SCADA and various gauges, meters, and control panels.
· Conduct hourly rounds of the facility checking the operational status of equipment.
· Perform water quality testing in laboratory and respond to water quality results.
· Monitor chemical usage and adjust as required.
· Fill chemical day tanks as required
· Backwash filters
· Adjust flows through treatment process to meet the demand for potable water.
· Respond to emergencies as needed.
· Participate in training and education relevant to water treatment plant operations.
· Establish and maintain a professional work ethic and effective working relationship with co-workers.
· Wears and properly uses safety equipment including personal protective, fall protection equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, gas detection equipment and others as may be required.
· Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with JCWA policies, procedures, and safety practices.
· Performs related work as required.

Required Special Qualification:
Must obtain a Missouri Department of Natural Resources Class “D” Water Plant Operator’s license within 24 months of hire date.
Education and/or Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
· Knowledge and ability to follow safety policies
· Sufficient experience and education to read, understand, and record a variety of data used in the water treatment facility
· Knowledge of basic computer skills
Mathematical Skills:
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in relevant units of measure
· Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
· Ability to solve practical problems and recognize deficiencies in the water treatment processes.
· Ability to analyze and understand meeting the demand for water and respond accordingly,
· Refrain from exposure to risk, violations of MDNR regulations and unsafe work practices.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Possess a high school diploma or equivalency
· Possess a valid State issued driver license
· Obtain a Missouri Department of Natural Resources “D” Water license within 24 months of hire.

Salary: $17.00 /hour with $.50 pay increase after 6-month probation ends
