We are in immediate need for a Payroll Clerk to work with a recycling company located in the city of Vernon, CA. This is a full time, temp to hire position, with a pay range of $24-$25 DOE.
Job Purpose
With the guidance of the Payroll Manager, provide support nationwide to managers and employees regarding union issues, payroll issues, and other payroll requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate input and process of weekly and biweekly payrolls.
- Prepare all required payroll reports.
- Answer employee questions regarding payroll-related questions.
- Must process weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for various departments and organizations.
- Process unemployment claims.
- Prepare special reports as required by management.
- Assist the Human Resources Dept. with new employee set-up and employment terminations.
- Provide administrative support to the department, which includes filing, off-cycle check processing, and other payroll-related duties.
- Process monthly billing for union dues and union health insurance.
- Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner
- Follow department and company procedures
- Keep up regular attendance and punctuality; regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company
- Other duties as assigned
- Qualifications (KSA, professional certifications, education, experience, travel requirements)
- A minimum of two years of education or experience above a high school diploma or on the job experience of two years
- Must have at least 2 years of experience working in a payroll and/or human resources department.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.)
- Experience with HRIS, payroll and benefits databases.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Must be proficient in Paylocity or a related payroll system.
- Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to understand and communicate benefits contract language.
- Experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Less than 10% travel requirement
