Position Title: (2) PART-TIME Traditional Apache Counselor
Department: East Mountain Resource Center
Employment Status: Non-Exempt Pay rate: $20/hr.

Job Summary
Employee will provide educational, counseling, and advocacy services based in Apache culture, including ceremonies,
songs, prayers, stories, healings, and cleansings. Work directly with the Cultural Manager to ensure that Apache culture
and language are incorporated into all program educational and counseling services. Employee will be working directly
with survivors of domestic violence, community members, and other tribal programs.
This position description may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be
found or assigned to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employee will have fluent understanding of the Tribe’s culture and language.
Employee will provide educational services including instruction in traditional Apache history, customs, beliefs, and
values with the intention of increasing our client’s respect for Apache culture, identity, and self-esteem.
Employee will ensure that Apache beliefs, values, knowledge, and practices are embodied in the program educational
and advocacy services.
Employee will be working with domestic violence victims, will need to know what domestic violence is and its
dynamics.
May be called to participate in case staffing by providing current patient progress reports.
Recommends appropriate traditional healing modality for new clients.
Documents all services provided and maintains information appropriately in client folders.
Ability to protect confidentiality of client records.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationship with individuals of varying social and cultural background
and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to work independently.
Willingness to participate in all program events and educational activities in the community and at local schools.
Willingness to do public speaking at various community events.
Willingness to lead group activities; including traditional plant and food gatherings.
Assist with client transportation as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Must be fluent in speaking and understanding the Apache language.
Must have a valid NM Driver’s License.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation.
Tribal preference and Native American Indian preference shall apply to all positions.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, employee regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or
hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands or arms. The employee occasionally is
required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift/and
or move up to 50 pounds.
