Substitute staff are very important to the operations of the Prince William Public Libraries. Substitutes assist with providing exceptional service to patrons by assisting during busy periods and to cover for staff.
About This Role:

Register new accounts and renew accounts.

Assist patrons in locating materials, answering questions, and providing recommendations.

Check materials in and out, hold requests.

Use of cash register/ cash handling.

Organize and maintain collections and ensure shelves are tidy and materials are in good condition.

Assist patrons with computer/printer/copier issues and technology questions.

Create displays, assist with programs, and participate in community outreach and special events.

The job can be physical in nature including moving heavy book carts, standing for long periods of time, bending, and squatting to reach shelves for filing.

Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Minimum Requirements:
8th grade graduation.
Preferences:
-
Customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.

Experience using Microsoft Office and 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, etc)

Experience using and troubleshooting computers/printers/mobile devices.

Strong organizational skills, including filing alphabetically and numerically.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Special Requirements – Substitutes must work a minimum of one offered shift, to retain substitute employment. This position may require travel during business hours. A DMV will be conducted for all staff who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule: These are substitute positions working during busy periods and covering staff, as needed. There is no set schedule or guarantee of hours. The position will not become permanent.
Work hours are generally scheduled during the following days/times: Monday – Wednesday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; Thursday-Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. For branches that are open on Sunday – 11:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Salary Range: $19.41 per hour
