Position Summary
Custom Conveyor is enthusiastically growing its small, family-friendly team. We are seeking a candidate for Project Engineer who has a positive attitude and is eager to learn every day!
Custom Conveyor designs and builds custom material handling equipment and industrial automation machines, so every project differs from the next. This is a dynamic position which brings together many skills to accomplish a wide scope of work. We are considering entry level to mid-career applicants for this position.
The primary role of the Project Engineer is taking concepts and turning them into detailed designs, and then turning those designs into finished machines. This is accomplished through a blend of performing tasks directly and working with others. The Project Engineer will be responsible for technical engineering tasks and overall project management related to their assigned projects, ensuring the project stays on schedule and meets the customer’s operational needs and timeline. This position works closely with all internal operational and production processes throughout the duration of the project.
Primary Responsibilities
· Perform engineering calculations to determine design specifications including belt or actuator speeds, power requirements, gearbox ratios and the like
· Create detailed mechanical designs and/or direct the efforts of designers in creating mechanical designs
· Ensure industrial controls requirements are incorporated into the mechanical design
· Review and approve designs for durability, efficiency, and manufacturability
· Create or direct the creation of shop floor document packages
· Respond to shop floor questions, clarifications, and modification requests
· Perform “as-built” edits to designs
· Generate and own the Bill of Materials for each assigned project
· Specify materials and components that meet design requirements
· Work with vendors to get technical information, pricing, and availability of components
· Manage the ordering of materials for the project in a timely manner
· Execute run-off/FAT testing as required for each project
· Assemble customer document packages from multiple inputs
· Support the project review process
· Cooperate and communicate effectively with the team
Additional Responsibilities
· Generate additional documentation in response to customer requests
· Contribute to standards development and implementation
· Participate in process improvement activities
· Occasional site visits to customer facilities (Typically 1-3 day travel)
· Other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
· A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, or an associates degree in engineering plus technical experience.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Keen organization with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
· Well-developed mechanical aptitude
· Ability to legally work in and travel throughout the United States
Preferred Qualifications
· Project management experience
· Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Autodesk Vault
· Proficiency in MS productivity software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Experience with conveyor or industrial machine design
· Basic understanding of industrial control systems and their implementation
· Understanding of mechanical power transmission systems and components
· Experience with manufacturing and sheet metal fabrication methods
· Knowledge of raw materials, particularly plastics and metals

Pay will be commensurate with experience and may be evaluated ahead of an annual schedule for someone who learns rapidly. For an outstanding candidate, this position may progress into a leadership role.
Custom Conveyor offers subsidized medical, dental and vision, 401K with match, seven paid annual holidays, paid time off and quarterly profit sharing. Our 40-hour schedule is 7:00am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday and 7am-11am Friday, giving you every Friday afternoon off!
