THE ROLE
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing and directing production activities and executing the production plan by supervising Team Leads and hourly associates throughout their designated shift. The Production Supervisor oversees multiple activities simultaneously and takes ownership of the output of production equipment and the safety and performance of leads and associates working on the production team. The Production Supervisor works closely and collaborates with other functions to execute plant-wide initiatives, ensuring consistent achievement of the production schedule, safely and effectively, within budget for successful on-time delivery of quality product to our customers; ensures standard work for Team Leads, Production Operators, and Utility personnel is followed safely and effectively.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, and revising work assignments as needed
- Responsible for employee absenteeism and timekeeping, correcting behavior when necessary
- Advises management of potential equipment or facilities concerns and/or failures which may directly affect safety, quality, productivity, or on-time delivery
- Assists Production Manager with reports (daily/monthly/weekly production reports) and assumes Production Manager in his/her absence
- Works with maintenance to coordinate equipment repairs around production schedules.
- Assesses the status of employees in training as well as existing employees to be sure they are capable of successfully performing the tasks of their jobs
- Ensures that sufficient parts and supplies are on hand to meet production needs
- Maintains inventory control practices and procedures to ensure an accurate supply of raw materials and WIP is maintained and accurate record keeping of production operations occurs compliant with ISO 9001-2015; coordinates with Shipping and Receiving and Quality teams to maximize efficient workflow and results
- Develops and implements processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity
- Provide a safe, clean, and organized plant environment.
- Hires, leads, trains, coaches, develops, motivates, and periodically completes performance evaluations on Production and Utility employees
- Consistently reaches desired targets for housekeeping (5S), safety, quality, delivery, and production
- Ensures team members follow all company policies, practices, and procedures
- Provides a physically and emotionally safe working environment, promoting mutual trust and respect
- Facilitates change and drives continuous improvement
- Maintains records and reporting of production, efficiency, utilization, and waste; recognizes areas for improvement opportunities
- Enforces safety policies and procedures to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job
- Trains and re-trains employees on how to safety use machinery
- Communicates job expectations and provides feedbacks to employees and management; sets daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicates them to their team
- Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action
- Evaluates each station of the manufacturing process to ensure maximum efficiency
- Must be willing to work any shift or cover other shifts as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; 3 years of related manufacturing experience
- 3 years prior supervisory/management experience in manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to work in and through teams with all levels of the workforce.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.
- Lean Certification Preferred
- Ability to make effective decisions, seek to find solutions to problems, work independently, investigate inquiries, and respond in a timely manner
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Strong ethical, positive, hands-on leadership style
- Attention to detail with ability to act and think analytically
- Computer and MS Office literacy required
- Formal front-line supervisor and/or leadership training preferred (not required)
- Must be willing and able to adapt to rapidly changing demands and priorities
- Must be willing and able to work weekends with their teams as necessary
