SUMMARY
Provides Leadership for the Product Design Engineering department. Oversee day to day tasks and projects pertaining to development of new products, and maintenance of existing products. Assigns projects and aids in explaining project form/fit/function to the recipient. Participates in actual product design. Adheres to and maintains company and department operating policies and procedures. Studies new engineering trends in related industries. Recommends any such items deemed productive for the department or company as a whole.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Supervises the daily functions of the Product Design Engineering Department.
· Develops product designs from provided specifications.
· Reads publications, attends showings and consults with manufacturing engineering, marketing, production,and sales representatives to establish design concepts and changes.
· Evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, marketing characteristics, and client specifications.
· Presents designs to clients or marketing and discusses need for modification and change.
· Builds and/or reviews prototypes to assure design accuracy.
· Prepares and coordinates preparation of all working drawings from RFQ specifications.
· Provide manufacturing problem solving support when needed.
· Assist in developing packaging methods.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide hands-on supervision of daily activities of the Product Design Engineering Department including Product Designers and Clerks. Participates in hands-on design of requested products. Assists in evaluations, reports needs for discipline to the department director and participates in the discipline process. Aids in resolving conflicts that may arise within the department or with associated departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess good communication skills and be able to work in a team setting. Must have a good working knowledge of computers. Must have prior experience with CAD programs (SolidWorks, Inventor, Pro-E, Creo, or other 3D parametric modeling), database programs, spreadsheets, etc. Must possess ability to delegate work loads within the department to assure efficient operation. Must assure all project deadlines are met.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in a technical field, e.g. Engineering, Industrial Design, etc. plus 5 years experience in supervising a product engineering / design department.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Possess the ability to read and analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, operating and assembly instructions, and technical procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job requires standing, walking, sitting, use of hand or fingers, reaching with hands, and arms, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work in the engineering office area. Will be expected to make frequent trips to the factory floor to observe processes and production. Will travel to client to gather information or present a new or revised product.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
