Job Description: Counselor
After-school/Summer Camp
General Duties-
- Under the supervision of the Site Director, each is responsible for the daily supervision and safety of a specific group of 25 students.
- Each group Leader assists the Site Director on the specific and on-going activities of the program.
- Each Group Leader helps supervise the Group Workers assigned to the group.
- Each Group Leader is required to arrive at the program site at least ten minutes before the children arrive each day.
Program Activities-
- Contribute to the planning and carry out the daily activities for his/her group of children in the program.
- Maintain the daily attendance records/sign out sheets for his/her group.
- Prepare materials required to set the daily activities planed
- Escort the group to and from all activities areas and trips.
- Teach and supervise organized games, and team sports.
- Manage the use and collection of the games and materials used in the activities for specific groups.
- Coordinate with the Site Director/Team Leader the planning of activities and purchase of supplies and equipment for use in his/her group.
- Coordinate activities with resource people who will provide special programs.
Staff and Program Issues-
- It is the duty of every member of the staff to insure the program is safe and operating within the standards outlined by the NYC Department of Health.
- Participate in staff training activities and program safety orientation.
- Participate in the staff safety training including issues of appropriate behavior among Group Workers.
- Participate in the on-going evaluations of Group Workers.
- Issue a report to his/her Site Director/Team Leader on issues that require resolution.
- Convey information regarding schedule changes notice to the participants.
- Report any issue or illness to the Site Director/Team Leader.
Qualifications-
Group Leaders Must Be:
- Possess more than one year’s experience in programming and supervision of children.
- Able to provide supervision and guidance to children in the program.
- Able to carry out the program’s curriculum and activities.
- Able to teach and supervise staff and students.
- Able to carry out all activities and communicate with families.
- Able to relate goals of the program to host community, area, and schools.
Evaluation: Annual written evaluation by Team Leaders, Site Supervisor, and Director.
Schedule: Some nights and weekends meeting required. General workday will be from 2:15pm to 6:00pm Monday through Friday during after-school or between the hours of 8am to 6pm during summer camp.
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour
