The City of Takoma Park Police Department includes approximately 40 sworn officers and 30 civilians, that are as diverse as the community we serve. We strive each day to provide excellent service and a high level of responsiveness to our residents and everyone with whom we work. We are currently seeking a Crime Analyst who will be responsible for collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of information related to crimes occurring in and around Takoma Park. This position is eligible for membership in the AFSCME union.
Typical Duties include:
· Reviewing, categorizing, and evaluating crime reports to identify suspect and crime trend information;
· Performing standard searches and analyzing suspect and MO correlation from data obtained;
· Utilizing data and information gathered to identify, track, or forecast possible crime trends or problem areas;
· Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and statistics from various sources including geographical information systems;
· Using geographical information systems to analyze and present information and assist in the preparation of graphs, maps, tables, and other visual representation regarding the occurrences of crime and crime trends;
· Creating daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual crime report summaries to distribute to Council, Department Staff, the State of Maryland, and resident advisory groups;
· Providing residents and police staff with various criminal and social issue information;
· Facilitating the exchange of crime and case information to law enforcement personnel, both inside and outside of Takoma Park;
· Planning, overseeing, and carrying out administrative and strategic analysis of geographic and social information to be used by police administration for planning;
· Using results of data collection and analysis to evaluate and recommend improvements in operations;
· Compiling monthly UCR reporting requirements. Completing and submitting data in a timely manner;
· Attending community and interagency meetings on a regular basis to discuss current trends and to share information;
· Supporting Compstat and Intelligence-based policing;
· Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications include:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field; or,
· Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job.
· Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Candidates may possess the following skills and certifications:
· Knowledge of and experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional and Regional Crime databases;
· Certified Law Enforcement Analyst;
· Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst.
