An award-winning live event, national radio show, television show, podcast and thriving digital brand, Open To Debate seeks a Freelance Editorial Producer(3.5 Months).
Open To Debate is a non-partisan, non-profit organization, seeking a goal-orientated and self-directed individual who is inspired by our mission and will want to work with the editorial team to executive best-in-class discussions among a wide array of thought leaders.
The Freelance Editorial Producer for Open To Debate will work closely with all members of the editorial team and will be responsible for researching, securing, and pre-interviewing high profile guests who will participate in the weekly debate series. The ideal candidate will possess a discerning and agile intellect and will make stellar contributions to the debate and speaker ideation process. The Editorial Producer is a voracious consumer of news who will have a vision for the curation of debates among prominent public voices who hold opposing views on a given topic.
The ideal candidate is an individual who will thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-orientated environment and who is collaborative by nature. The Editorial Producer will report to the Chief Content Officer.
Responsibilities for the Freelance Editorial Producer Include:
- Ideating compelling debate topics, precise motion language and guest ideas.
- Securing and pre-interviewing thought leaders who take opposing views on a given topic.
- Providing thorough research and pre-interview notes to the series moderator and to the full team.
- Producing debates, including drafting scripting and creating radio cuts that adhere to NPR clock
- Work with sound engineer on delivery of final mix
- Scripting and producing promos and billboard for weekly episodes
- Liaise between video and editorial team to ensure video release is consistent with editorial standards
- Work with marketing to determine social media and promotional clips
Qualifications
- Prior relevant work experience with a required minimum of 5 years of experience as a producer. Experience in journalism and media a huge plus.
- Knowledge of ProTools
- Experience writing for the ear
- Understanding of the mix process for radio/podcasts
- Interest in public policy issues is essential. You’re a sophisticated news consumer, interested in political science, and are intellectually curious about both sides of the issues.
- You’re a great thinker and can bring new ideas to the table.
- You’re comfortable communicating and interfacing with all types of people at all varying levels.
- You have a strong understanding of the podcast / radio / streaming landscape.
- You have an eye for creating efficiencies within the audio production process.
- You have experience with small organizations and are comfortable leading collaboration amongst external teams.
- You are ambitious, creative, and have a sense of humor.
