Job Purpose
This role provides high-quality, sophisticated legal advice and counselling in high-stakes matters in the areas of complex contract, privacy and cybersecurity, corporate governance, product development (including connected and autonomous vehicles) and general business matters in a timely and cost-effective manner for U.S. Honda entities. In addition, this role advises on product regulations (NHTSA, CPSC, USCG, EPA, CARB) and safety/regulatory affairs, reviews product and corporate communications and marketing, and supports Honda Power Equipment and Marine divisions on dealer relations. The Senior Corporate Counsel will draft and negotiate agreements, provide recommendations on company policies and procedures, perform legal research on state and federal law, retain and supervise outside counsel in the handling of research, legal advice and administrative hearings, provide legal education/training to various Honda entities, manage risks by identifying countermeasures, and undertake projects to proactively identify issues and take steps to implement countermeasures.
Key Accountabilities
- Legal advice and services: Provide high quality, strategic, and practical legal services and advice in highly complex, sensitive or confidential matters related to sales activities (including significant contract matters) in a timely and cost-effective manner that allows Honda to achieve business goals while also meeting its legal obligations and mitigating or reducing risks.
- Projects: Execute assigned projects to make sure that they are completed competently within the set deadlines and budget.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an Accredited Law School
- Admittance to the California Bar
- 10 years of experience as an attorney in relevant/related areas.
- Good knowledge of the various areas of Honda business.
- Strong experience in working with a team.
