General Responsibilities
The ABA Counselor-Education is responsible for providing educational instruction to assigned individual in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth. The ABA Counselor will assist in implementing individualized programs that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-21 years) with autism, intellectually/developmental disabilities and acquired brain injury. The ABA-Counselor-Education will typically be assigned to a classroom but may be required to work with individuals from other classrooms, as assigned by supervisors.
Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The position requires that staff be aware that individual who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Individual served may have had multiple treatment failures prior to this placement. This requires the ABA-Counselor-Education to be constantly alert and ready to respond to the individual's needs according to effective behavior analytic interventions.
Starting Pay Rate:
Minimum of 50 college credits: $20.35/hr. +
Bachelor's degree: $23.65/hr. +

Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: minimum of 50 college credits; Bachelor's degree preferred
Certifications/Licensure: A valid US driver's license, a valid US driver's license for 2 years, and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention.
Skill(s): Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office. Possess strong teaching skills with emphasis on individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Ability to implement function based interventions for the reduction of challenging behaviors. Experience in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are assets.
Experience: Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations.
