Job Description Production Assistant
Reports To: Production Manager and Winemaker
Description Summary:
This position will monitor wine for stabilization and document and report any abnormalities. Primary focus will be monitory pH and SO2 levels of the wine. The quality of our wine can be greatly affected by the cellar processes. Ensuring quality must be the production assistants primary focus to ensure the quality and integrity of our product.
Production also ensure that our outside vendors are taken care of weekly. This process involves traveling to their site of business, checking on equipment, cleaning and replacing of equipment and re-stocking inventory.
The Production Assistant should expect to work 20 hours per week, maintaining some flexibility with seasonality and production demand. The Production Assistant position is an hourly, atwill employee supervised by the Winemaker and the Production Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- ● Come in prepared to work. Understand the day's objective by communicating with the other winey staff if present.
- ● Double check the volume of ph and so2 by procedure
- ● Sanitize equipment
- ● Clean all tanks that are empty, dirty, and need to be cleaned.
- ● Complete fermentation checks.
- ● Consult with the winery team during monthly inventory
- ● Communicate with the team throughout the day to keep the day organized, running on time, and able to maintain a good workflow.
- ● Primary focus should be to safely make wine and provide a safe working environment which allows us to work cleanly and produce great wine in an environment with minimal stress.
- ● Assist in the cleaning of the cellar areas and the washing of equipment, floors and tools to comply with company and government sanitation standards.
Other Requirements:
- ● Follow all SOPs and safety protocols.
- ● Make observations of efficiencies and inefficiencies.
- ● Make recommendations for equipment and processes with formal reports or an email.
- ● Contribute to improvements and processes required to gain efficiency and quality assurance in the cellar department.
- ● Able to work through challenges by setting a professional and upbeat example.
- ● Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete a dilution calculations, volume, flow, density, weight, length, pressure and other unit conversions, calculate wine volumes/losses, and alcohol content.
- ● Communicate clearly with coworkers and managers, verbally and written.
- ● Frequent problem solving.
Physical Requirements:
- ● Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 70 pounds to chest height.
- ● Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching.
- ● Must be able to stand for the entire shift
- ● Frequent washing of hands.
